Well, it’s approaching that time of year again which, being from Ayrshire, I used to love in school – Burns Night! No doubt preparations are already underway for Burns Suppers including learning some super Scots verses by the man himself.

If he was alive today, Robert Burns would be 256 years old on 25th January this year – and it’s wonderful to know that his work and life is still celebrated the world over. If Burns was around today, I could easily see him on Twitter – giving him a chance to air his views and publicise his poetry!

Anyway, to help you out at this busy time, here is a wee lesson and Task Map based on one of Robert Burns’ songs – Willie Wastle. If you’re not familiar with it, I promise you it’s a good one – and one of my favourites to do with Primary 5 upwards – especially if you’ve had enough of mice, mountain daisies and hair lice. *shivers*

Click below to download – and do come back to let us know how you got on! (if you need help with some of the pronounciation there are plenty of YouTube versions!)

Enjoy all of your Scottish celebrations – I think it’s time to introduce Jeffrey to some Haggis!
