day 14

Ho! Ho! Ho! Here is Santa Jeffrey with another quick Christmas gift to save time planning for next week!

Don’t resort to a DVD – keep the cherubs busy in the last week by giving them this tricky Blankety Blank reading lesson to do in their trios. Learn about old Icelandic folklore and Jolakotturinn the Christmas Cat that likes to eat people, and his owner Gryla – a gruesome ogress that likes to boil children in her cauldron before devouring them!

This one is quite a challenging text – probably suitable for P5 and up. You can download it here:

And if you don’t have it already here is the answer sheet:

Don’t forget the rules of play:

* work in mixed ability trios with roles of Reader, Recorder, Manager – it’s a team effort!

* you get two points for every correct answer (the one used in the actual article)

* you get one extra point for every additional answer you come up with that fits and makes sense in the context

*points make prizes! (Have a fantastic festive prize on offer to keep groups working hard!)

Also, don’t forget that you can use the special secret code GIRAFFE on the website to get an amazing 30% off of any of our Reflective Reading conferences next year! But be quick – the code only works for bookings made during December!

Have a wonderful week!

Your festive friend,

Jeffrey X
